Steps to Start a Team With Us
Review each step below to see the details of the process
Once you decide to go with our service, the steps below will guide you through the journey to support your child’s development and well-being.
Read the service agreement and ask the behaviour analysts any questions you may have. Then sign the service agreement and send it back to the behaviour analysts.
Complete the intake form (emailed to you) and send it back to the behaviour analysts. The intake form asks questions that will help provide the most up-to-date information about your child’s strengths and needs. Growth is constant and your child may have acquired new behaviours since their last assessment reports.
Share reports and assessments with the consultant.
1. Diagnostic reports
2. SLP reports/assessments
3. OT reports/assessments
4. SCD reports/assessments, etc. to the behaviour analyst.
Set up a team of Behaviour Interventionists. Parents/guardians will be responsible for searching for and hiring BIs to work with the child. At your request, your behaviour analysts may assist with this step.
Submit a Request to Pay (RTP) form to AFU for each team member.
Additional information provided by the BC government can be viewed here.
Set up AFU to pay your service providers. Your social worker can assist in setting up your child’s AFU funding and family portal.
You will need to submit “request to pay” forms to include information for each of your service providers (BCBA, BCaBA, BIs, OT, SLP, etc).
Each service provider should fill out the request to pay form to provide you with their personal information.
A parent meeting will be scheduled (approximately 1.5 hours), usually conducted online. Please note this meeting is with parents/guardians, and the child is not involved yet during this step.
The interview will allow parents and the behaviour analyst the opportunity to discuss your child’s strengths/challenges and to plan short-term and long-term goals. We also want to prioritize your top goals and dreams for your child’s learning.
An in-person assessment, usually conducted at the child’s home (approximately 1.5-2 hours), will be scheduled.
A school observation will also be scheduled if your child attends daycare or preschool (2 hours).
These observations will allow the consultant to see the child and assess for baseline skills.
In most cases, the VB-MAPP Assessment Tool will be used.
An individualized behaviour plan of Intervention proposal for your child’s program goals and learning objectives will be sent for your approval.
Once we have a consensus for the goals, the behaviour analysts will develop the teaching procedures, the intervention plan, and the datasheets to be implemented during BI sessions to target the agreed-upon goals.
The Behaviour Interventionists will schedule a few rapport-building sessions with the child to develop a positive and playful relationship filled with preferred activities in the absence of demands.
Rapport-building sessions can be scheduled as soon as the BI is hired.
A workshop for all BIs will be scheduled, which will allow the behaviour analyst the opportunity to review the following with the Behaviour Interventionists and parents: ABA theory, the behaviour plan of intervention, and programs to be implemented during sessions.
Hands-on training sessions will be scheduled, allowing the behaviour analyst to model and coach the behaviour interventionist in implementing the behaviour plan of intervention and programs.
Hands-on training will continue until the BI has passed the final evaluation, after which the BI can conduct independent sessions.
Ongoing training with monthly to bi-monthly overlaps will be provided. At each overlap, the BI will receive feedback and evaluation with goals to continue to hone their teaching skills.
The amount of training sessions vary depending on the BI’s previous experiences and training history.
Establish a regular schedule of sessions, team meetings, and overlaps.
The team will establish a regular schedule of sessions between the Behaviour Interventionists and the child.
The behaviour analyst will also outline the frequency of team meetings, overlaps, and consultation services
